Uniform Services Bureau

 |
The Uniform Services Bureau of the Burlington Police Department is the largest group of responders for the city. This bureau is comprised of uniform officers, corporals, sergeants and lieutenants that are responsible for the twenty-four hour daily patrols. As a community policing department, our officers work very closely with community members to ensure that their neighborhoods remain safe. |
As the Uniform Services Bureau is responsible for patrol of the city around the clock, we have organized teams to cover each shift of patrol. Currently we have two teams of officers lead by a Sergeant to cover each shift of either day shift, evening shift, or midnight shift. These teams have rotating days with four days on duty and three days off duty.
The City of Burlington is situated on the shores of Lake Champlain in the northwest corner of the state. With a land area of 18 square miles, we have sectioned the City into five policing areas to more closely allign our services within the geopolitical wards of the city. A Lieutenant is responsible for the community policing services within each area. Read More>
Every day at work is unique at our Department. Officers can find themselves enforcing the traffic laws of the state, responding for emergency calls for help, or investigating criminal activity. As we are grounded in the community, many of our Officers have the opportunity to work closely with residents in meetings to solve problems, and to provide education on creating a safe, healthy and self-reliant community.
Officers in our department will work for several years getting to know the City and its neighborhoods. Uniform Services offers unique assignments including School Resource Officer, Bike Patrol, Motorcyle Patrol, Field Training Officer, Traffic Safety and the Airport. Many of our Officers have participated in training at the Vermont Police Academy as instructors or Training Assistants.
