Training

PT_test

The Burlington Police Department Training Unit is responsible for the coordination and oversight of all training for sworn and non-sworn personnel.  The Unit organizes and conducts “in-house” training using instructors from within our agency for everything from law to use of force to cultural diversity.  The Training Unit brings in or sends employees to valuable training conducted by outside experts meant to continue the professional development of Police Department personnel.

The Vermont Criminal Justice Training Council’s Rules for law enforcement certification makes certain types and certain hours of training necessary on a yearly basis.  Other training is necessary to develop employees as they develop in their careers as Officers and sometimes as they move into specialty assignments such as drug enforcement, canine handling, homicide investigation, sexual abuse and crimes against children.

On going training is important in any professional organization to maintain expert employees who are able to deliver a high level of professional service.  The Police Department strives to give its employees the tools and knowledge to enable them to better serve the citizens of Burlington.
