Lt. Emmet Helrich joined the police department in 1981 and has served in both patrol and detectives. Emmet moved through the ranks, serving as a Sergeant and Lieutenant. A graduate of the FBI National Academy and DEA Academy, he steered the Detective Bureau until 1997, at which time he returned to his roots in Uniform.

Be a good neighbor, report suspicious activity. Don't tolerate bad behavior in your neighborhoods. Lock your doors and secure all windows. Don't leave valuables visible in your cars.

Meet our Employees

Carlson

Detective Kristian Carlson grew up in Massachusetts where he attended college and earned both Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Legal Studies. Kris worked in a correctional center as a caseworker, as well as a fraud investigator, before coming to BPD. He is currently assigned to the Chittenden Unit for Special (CUSI) Investigations where he is an investigator and computer forensics expert. Kris also teaches Criminal Law at the Police Academy. He lives in the area with his wife and family.
