Graffiti Prevention

Graffiti Response

The City of Burlington takes the problem of graffiti very seriously.   Representatives from all City departments have formed a “Green Team” to work collectively together to combat the problem.   The "Green Team" coordinates initiatives such as "Green up Day", whereas volunteers, residents and City employees meet and divide up cleaning duties throughout the City.  One of the primary duties is the clean up of graffiti.

Graffiti does not just simply damage property, but the monetary value associated with the clean up is costly and time consuming.  In addition, the prevalence of graffiti contributes to the increased perception of crime and disorder in the community.

Our success as a Police Department is greatly assisted by the information we receive from the community.  Your increased awareness and attention to graffiti will better help us police the City of Burlington for this criminal activity.

Your assistance can help us in two areas.  First, alert the police to any suspicious activity or individuals who might be involved in such crimes.  Second, quickly clean or repair your property damage in the event vandalism occurs.  This may include painting over the damage and then applying a form of “Anti-Graffiti” clear coat such as Superthane or Wearlon.  If you have questions regarding graffiti removal or “Anti-Graffiti” paint, you can contact the First Response Team at 865-7548 or visit http://www.cedoburlington.org.

The First Response Team (FRT) works to stop the deterioration of Burlington’s neighborhoods by repairing property crime.  Since its creation in 2000, the FRT has involved over 1000 volunteers and has cleaned over 500 graffiti sites.  Community volunteers remove graffiti, mend fences, replant gardens and fix windows when vandalism occurs.  The goal is to restore a sense of security and neighborhood pride.  FRT gives residents of Burlington’s downtown neighborhoods the tools they need to invest and revitalize their streets.

The Burlington Police Department encourages community participation in addressing and controlling the proliferation of graffiti with in the city.
