AMBER ALERT

The Amber Alert System is used nationwide to help recover abducted children. It began in Texas in 1996 after the murder of 9 year old Amber Hagerman. When an abduction has been confirmed by law enforcement, an Amber Alert is issued. This causes widespread media alerts and frequent updates to solicit the public’s help in locating the missing child.

Amber Alerts are a tool for law enforcement and are only intended for the most serious and time-critical child abduction cases. Amber Alerts are not issued for runaways, cases involving custody disputes or police searches for criminals.

If you witness a child abduction, contact the nearest law enforcement agency immediately or call 911 with all the information you have, including description of suspect and child, location of the abduction, and any vehicles involved.

If you hear an Amber Alert, please assist law enforcement in watching for the vehicle, suspect, and child and report any sightings to the phone numbers you hear on the alert, or calling 911.
